City residents confessed what they value about the embankments: “Not just the beautiful view”

Half of Russians love embankments for their long walking routes along the water
Russians no longer perceive embankments only as decorative elements of the urban environment. Residents of large cities increasingly consider the territory along the river as part of everyday infrastructure. Analysts have found out what role the presence of a well-maintained embankment plays when choosing a place to live.

For most survey participants, the embankment is not just a path along the water, but a full-fledged public space. Experts from the DARS group of companies asked respondents to choose which elements make the embankment truly valuable for life.
In first place are long walking routes along the water. 46% of respondents voted for this option. Residents noted that they want to be able to go to the water at any time: in the morning - for a run, in the afternoon - for a walk with children, in the evening - to walk in silence.
Second place went to recreation areas – benches, awnings, terraces, secluded places by the water where you can relax. This option was chosen by 30%. People most often mentioned comfort: the presence of shade, lighting, safe areas where you can just sit, read or meet with friends. Such areas, according to respondents, make the embankment attractive on weekdays, and not just on weekends.
In third place are sports and event components: running and cycling routes, workout and morning yoga areas, summer film screenings and outdoor events. 18% of city residents spoke in favor of them.
– Only 6% of survey participants noted the view from the window as the main value of the embankment. Many specified that aesthetics are important, but do not replace infrastructure. In Ulyanovsk, for example, the Sviyaga embankment has become an extension of the residential complex – with routes and access to the water. In Moscow, there are already and are being built residential complexes integrated into the natural environment. In Ufa, a recreational area will appear along the backwater of the Belaya River. In a new project in Lipetsk, an embankment of more than three hectares is being designed with a beach area, public spaces and an event site, – notes Ilya Valov, Marketing Director of DARS.
Every third respondent named a well-maintained embankment as one of the key factors when choosing housing. Another 28% indicated that it is a significant advantage under equal conditions, for example, when choosing between two apartments in the same price category. For 19%, proximity to water has more of an emotional meaning: a pleasant bonus, but not an argument when buying. The rest said that the embankment within walking distance from the house does not affect their choice - transport, infrastructure and the price of housing are more important.
